CHOOSING YOUR TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMME
The Polestar curriculum, designed by physical therapist and Orthopedic Certified Specialist Brent Anderson, is based on a scientific foundation of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and motor control, and integrates scientific research findings in the areas of orthopedics, sports medicine and movement science.
Our teaching method is interactive, helping you assess the whole person - physically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. The educational approach incorporates:
- discussion forum
- labs (doing, observing, teaching)
- problem solving (utilizing case studies and deductive reasoning)
- hands-on teaching (group and individuals)
- assessment skills
- principles of neuro-linguistics (modeling, sequencing and structuring information, and maintaining appropriate learning states)
Polestar's flexible design allows you to attend courses on weekends, minimizing time away from home and work. Time between courses to study, observe and practice allows you to schedule courses based on mastery of the material and the amount of time and energy you can devote to your training. You can earn Polestar Certifications in Rehabilitation, Studio, Reformer and Mat. The diagram below shows the certifications according to the level of training required for each.

The first component of all Polestar Series is a two-day Principals of Fitness/Movement module, "PF". For participants undertaking more than one series, it is only required to complete PF once.
A Combined Studio/Rehabilitation Series
Polestar Pilates UK offer a combined Studio/Rehabilitation Series. This is a seven-module course for rehabilitation practitioners, personal trainers and movement specialists alike. It is the only course of its kind in the UK where both rehab and fitness professionals are able to train together within our studio environment, utilising the reformer, trapeze table, chair, ladder barrel, mat and small props.
This is a unique opportunity to share knowledge and experience as well as to respect and understand the protocols and scope of practice within each profession. Due to this unique arrangement, Polestar UK’s two Principal Educators, Liz Bussey and Alastair Greetham, together with other members of the Polestar education team, will be presenting to and supporting the students throughout the course to ensure that all their needs and requirements are catered for.
Throughout the series, there are times when sessions are separated between studio and rehab students to reflect the differing emphasis for each audience. Also, the final module is different for each and taken separately to prepare the respective groups for their own exams. Further details of the course curriculums can be found on the pages for Rehabilitation Series and for Studio Series
Reformer Series
The Polestar Pilates Reformer Series is designed for physical therapists, personal trainers and Pilates instructors. The Reformer Series consists of four two-day (16 hour) course modules and teaches the practical skills needed to become proficient with assessment techniques, Pilates reformer exercises, movement sequences, and the application of the Polestar Principles. Further details on the Reformer Series page.
Mat Series
The Polestar Mat Series is designed for personal trainers and group exercise instructors. It is also appropriate for instructors of movement arts such as dance, yoga, and Tai Chi, as well as practitioners of somatic movement such as Feldenkrais® and Alexander® Techniques. These programmes enable fitness professionals to incorporate Polestar Pilates-evolved mat exercises into their training regimens. Programme design and exercise sequencing are addressed for group formats and one-on-one training. Theory and practice of Polestar principles and instruction techniques are applied to each exercise. Verbal, tactile and combined cueing practices are addressed to facilitate motor learning. Further details on the Mat Series page. |
