REFORMER SERIES

Want to get the most out of the Pilates reformer that is in the corner of your studio or clinic?

The Polestar Pilates Reformer Series is designed for you! Physical therapists, personal trainers, Pilates instructors and their clients are reaping the benefits of the work of Joseph Pilates with this versatile piece of equipment. The Reformer Series consists of four two-day (16 hour) course modules and teaches the practical skills needed to become proficient with assessment techniques, Pilates reformer exercises, movement sequences, and the application of the Polestar Principles.

Upon completion, you will be able to:

  • Perform and teach each exercise and its progression
  • Understand the benefits and emphasis of each exercise
  • Adapt exercise sequences for diverse populations and group classes
  • Use the Polestar Screening or the ICF model to problem-solve
  • Design and implement a successful exercise or treatment plan using the Pilates reformer

The Polestar Pilates Reformer Series comprises four mandatory two-day course modules. The courses must be taken in the following order: PF, REF1, REF2, REF3. Successful completion of the series will enable participants the opportunity to gain certification by sitting for the Reformer Exam.

Participants: 14 maximum
Prerequisites: Certified Fitness Instructor, or instructor of movement arts (dance, yoga, tai chi, etc.) or registered rehabilitation professional (MD, SRP, OT, DO, DC, RGN and certified athletic trainers).
  Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology.
  25 hours of private or group Pilates classes.

Course Curriculum:

PF  Polestar Pilates Principals of Fitness/Movement   (2 days - 16 hours)

This non-apparatus course introduces current research in movement science, motor learning, bioenergetics, and communication science to instructional practice through six basic movement principles which are used throughout the Polestar Pilates curriculum. Tactile, verbal and imagery cues are integrated with the Pilates exercises. This course introduces Polestar Pilates Screening™, which includes postural evaluation and functional testing, to prepare you to properly design a plan to implement Pilates exercises for clients. This unique component significantly enhances decision-making skills as a Pilates practitioner. For those participants undertaking more than one series, it is only required to complete PF once.   

REF1 Pilates Reformer 1 (2 days - 16 hours)

Movement selections: introductory and level 1 exercises for core control, strength, flexibility, alignment, coordination and balance
Experiential lecture and lab: dynamics of group training

REF2 Pilates Reformer 2 (2 days - 16 hours)

Movement selections: level 2 and level 3 exercises with more challenging variations for core control and extremity strength
Experiential lecture and lab: advanced cueing skills that enhance the accuracy and quality of movement

REF3 Pilates Reformer 3 (2 days - 16 hours)

Movement selections: intermediate to advanced exercises to increase challenges to core control, strength, flexibility, alignment, coordination and balance
Experiential lecture and lab: program design for all levels of fitness, from the de-conditioned person to athletes desiring sports-specific training.
